Once placed around the stomach, tubing connects the LAP-BAND® to an access port fixed beneath the skin of your abdomen. The Lap-Band works by allowing you to feel satisfied with smaller portions of food. The Lap-Band is placed around the upper part of the stomach. This creates a small pouch that fills with each bite of solid food that is eaten. Signals are sent to the brain, which responds by thinking the entire stomach is full. Food moves into the lower, larger part of the stomach at a controlled rate and is digested and absorbed unchanged from the way it was prior to the procedure. Even though you’re eating less, you will feel satisfied and no longer hungry.
The Gastric Sleeve allows you to lose weight by helping to control portion size. Not only will you eat less but you will also feel full sooner. The food you eat passes through the digestive tract in the usual manner, allowing it to be fully absorbed in the body. Digestion and absorption of food and nutrients is not changed.
The Gastric Sleeve procedure is performed using laparoscopic surgery. This is a minimally invasive technique that allows the procedure to be performed without making large incisions. Laparoscopic surgery results in shorter hospital stay, faster recovery, smaller scars, and less pain than open surgical procedures.
The procedure takes 60 to 90 minutes and is performed using general anaesthesia. On average, you will stay in the hospital for one to two days, usually returning to normal activities in 5 to 7 days and enjoying a full recovery in about 2 weeks.

As tracking research data has accumulated, the mini gastric bypass procedure has gained popularity as the modern alternative to traditional Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery –– excellent results, a simpler, more streamlined procedure and reduced overall complication rates.

Next, it reduces the absorption of what food you do eat, by bypassing a portion of your intestines. Revision Surgery - What is it?
Revision Surgery refers to procedures performed on patients who have already had Bariatric Surgery and have either had complications, or have regained or failed to lose weight successfully from the initial surgery. Some other issues that may make you consider Revision Surgery are: severe persistent reflux, food intolerance, band slips or erosions, or even historic bariatric procedures that are no longer performed which may need to be revised or reversed.
